A Bucket of Rubbish

May 30, 2012

Slipped out early this morning for a couple of hours of bait gathering with the tinsel feathers. Bait that would be required for the bass later this summer. Read last night of huge shoals of mackerel gathering along the coast East of us and felt that maybe they have started shoaling on our patch, in fact I was so confident that I decided to take the bucket with me so I could keep them in the best possible condition.

Walking to my mark the sea mist started to roll in and the unseen ships in the distance started to sound their horns, the sea was calm and I felt expectant. One and half hours later I was walking back with the same empty bucket.

Strange morning, not a touch and no signs of any fish activity at all. The bait gathering will have to wait for another day.

As a post script to this piece when I say the bucket was empty that’s not strictly true, for I managed to fill it with left over rig packets discarded from previous days fishing. Without going into too much of a rant, why has today’s society allowed a 2nd generation of parents to not teach their children a respect for the countryside?

If we are not very careful we will end up with a country we deserve…
